Don't Misread Values Voters

What's the Matter with Kansas? 2004
This is a popular book explaining the popular view of the 2 kinds of conservatives, the social and the economic. I accepted this logical conclusion along with just about everyone including the media. But now I am convinsed this is wrong because of more scientific analysis of the topic.

Rich state, poor state, red state, blue state: What's the matter with Connecticut? 2005
This is a research paper at Columbia that concludes that richer people in poor states are more likely to vote Republican than richer people in richer states. Most states are not red or blue but shades of purple. The idea here is that in red states, the rich are the ones that push them into the red.

What’s the Matter with What’s the Matter with Kansas? 2006
This paper is targeted right at the book and counters nearly every theory presented with statistics.

The Truth about Conservative Christians 2006
I don't trust so called "studies" that come out in a book instead of a pier reviewed journal. But I started with a book. This one does fit the topic here and it is widely referenced.
